Cross Tie Program

Notch8, LLC provided comprehensive surveying, engineering, and project management support for the VSR 2024 Cross Tie Renewal Program serving the Attica–Medicine Lodge corridor in south‑central Kansas. The program included the removal and replacement of approximately 9,500 cross ties across six dispersed locations, along with the renewal of three 115‑lb No. 10 turnouts at the west end of the Medicine Lodge Yard using new switch packages.

In addition to the tie and turnout work, Notch8 oversaw ballast regulating, tamping, surfacing, and alignment operations across all renewal sites, as well as 11.5 miles of mainline surfacing to restore track geometry, improve ride quality, and enhance long‑term system performance.

Our team supported the effort from initial field assessment through construction oversight, ensuring full compliance with FRA track safety standards, Kansas Department of Transportation requirements, and established industry engineering practices. Throughout the program, Notch8 coordinated closely with the client and contractor to deliver disciplined execution, precise documentation, and reliable technical guidance.

Trackwork

Notch8, LLC provided comprehensive surveying, engineering, and project management support for the Union City Terminal Railroad (UCT) Trackwork Improvement Program, a multi‑year infrastructure initiative delivered in partnership with the Tenn‑Ken Rail Authority and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). The program encompassed system‑wide tie and turnout renewals, including the installation of 5,300 new cross ties to enhance safety, reliability, and long‑term track performance across the UCT network in Union City, Obion County, Tennessee.

Project activities included coordinated field evaluations, detailed engineering review, and construction oversight for tie replacement, turnout rehabilitation, ballast management, and geometry restoration. Notch8 ensured all work adhered to FRA Track Safety Standards, TDOT Rail Preservation Program requirements, and established industry engineering practices.

Throughout the effort, Notch8 worked closely with UCT leadership, Tenn‑Ken Rail Authority representatives, and construction contractors to deliver disciplined execution, precise documentation, and dependable technical guidance from initial assessment through final completion.

Project Management

Notch8, LLC serves as the project management lead for Natchez Railway’s multi‑year Infrastructure Improvement Program, a federally funded initiative supported through the CRISI grant. Our role encompasses full‑cycle coordination of all project phases — including planning, field verification, contractor oversight, documentation control, regulatory alignment, and progress tracking across the Natchez Railway system in Adams and Franklin Counties, Mississippi.

The program includes the replacement of approximately 45,600 cross ties, installation of 4,209 rail relay, renewal of five public road crossings, and replacement of three culverts along the mainline. These improvements are designed to enhance operational reliability, strengthen corridor resilience, and extend long‑term track performance across the Natchez Railway network.

As project managers, Notch8 ensures that all construction activities remain fully compliant with FRA Track Safety Standards, CRISI program requirements, and established industry engineering practices. Our team manages scheduling, stakeholder communication, technical reviews, and field coordination to maintain efficient, transparent, and disciplined execution. This oversight provides Natchez Railway with reliable delivery, audit‑ready documentation, and consistent alignment between engineering intent and field performance.
